On Lockwood Drive and Bee Street, adjacent to the Medical University of South Carolina and across from the Ashley River proudly stands the new Bee Street Lofts. Parking in the gated garage with security pad access provides one space per condo out of a total of 162 spaces. The additional 54 spaces are being sold for $35,000. Monthly regime fee y based on square footage and is reportedly running about $.35 per square foot. The exercise room and lounge are planned but not started as of March 2008. Condos range in size from 800 sq. ft. to 2000 sq. ft.
So what’s the buzz about Bee Street?
2007 brought the completion of the Bee Street Lofts developed by the Bomasada Group, Inc. Over half of the condos were under contract before the opening of the doors in January 2008, not a small feat these days in this real estate market. Further sales on the 108 condos have continued since, but there are still some choice condo homes available here with good pricing.
What’s on offer?
The property is constructed of energy-efficient materials with artful quality, providing a city loft environment in downtown Charleston with 20-foot ceilings on the penthouse floor, high-end kitchens and bathrooms, and state-of-the-art designer stained concrete floors.
What’s the drawback?
Although gated, the limited parking leads many to dismiss it before realizing that when you’re working a block away, who cares? This actually is a green choice worth considering. The best location for MUSC workers and students alike with prices ranging from close to $400,000 to over a million, it will also appeal to the urban set.
What’s the highlight?
If feeling restless, enjoy boating on the Ashley River or jog/bike to the historic central business district of Charleston and the College of Charleston. Views to swoon over from most of the condos, coupled with the sound resistant and energy-efficient windows, give one the peace of mind needed at the end of the day while the rest of the world fights the rush hour traffic.
